👋 Welcome to Auckland Schools' Debating Junior Open 2020

Welcome to Auckland Schools' Debating Junior Open for 2020. All debates for this grad will be taking online via Yaatly (link to Yaatly).

Debates in Junior Open are a mix of prepared, advised subject and limited preparation. Prepared debates start at 4:30pm. The motions for advised subject and limited preparation debates will be announced at 4:30pm with debates starting at 5:30pm. Teams should check-in at least 15 minutes before the start or motion announcement time. 

During preparation time, students may have between 3 and 5 students in the prep room. Students may not communicate with anyone else besides their team and may not use the internet for research.

  • Round 2 - Monday 22 June (Advised Subject)
  • Round 3 - Monday 27 July (Advised Subject)
  • Round 4 - Monday 10 August (Limited Preparation)
  • Octo Finals - Monday 17 August
  • Quarter/Semi Finals - Monday 31 August
  • Grand Final - Monday 7 September

Getting Help

There are 2 main ways you can get help on Yaatly:

  • You can message the “Support/Technical Issues channel (on the sidebar on the lefthand side)
  • You can enter the “Support and Technical Assistance Room and speak to a member of the ASD Committee.

There is no catch up round available this year.

Notice of a default after Monday 12pm, the day of the debate must be made by email and by calling the grade convenor. Any requests after Wednesday 2pm will be considered a default without notice and the team's status in the competition will be placed under
